Step-by-Step Guide to Ordering Custom Packaging

Treef-Er and Packaging Studio make it easier to coordinate your consumables, custom packaging, branding, and production needs through one connected process.

Step 1: Choose the Product You Want to Make

The first step is deciding what your finished product will be.

We will help you determine:

  • The size of the finished pre-roll
    • The desired fill weight
    • Whether you need a cone, straight tube, or blunt
    • Whether the consumable will include custom branding
    • How many products will go inside each package
    • Whether the product will be filled or packaged by hand or with automation

Starting with the finished product helps us recommend packaging that fits and performs correctly.

Step 2: Choose Your Package Size

The Treef-Er and Packaging Studio Consumable Program includes three standard pouch sizes.

3.75 Inches Wide by 7.5 Inches High

Designed to hold up to two 1-gram pre-rolls.

4 Inches Wide by 6 Inches High

Designed to hold:

  • Up to three 0.5-gram pre-rolls
    • Approximately one-eighth ounce of flower

5.5 Inches Wide by 6 Inches High

Designed to hold:

  • Up to ten 0.5-gram pre-rolls
    • Approximately one-quarter ounce of flower

Custom sizes and shapes may also be available when a standard pouch does not meet your product or branding needs.

Step 3: Select Your Packaging Material

Choose the packaging level that best fits your budget, branding goals, product protection needs, and desired customer experience.

Economy Packaging

A simple, affordable option for lower-cost or wholesale products.

Includes:

  • White film
    • CMYK printing
    • No outer lamination
    • A clean and cost-effective finish

Standard Packaging

A stronger option with heavier film and gloss lamination.

Provides:

  • A stronger oxygen barrier
    • A polished gloss finish
    • More durability than Economy packaging
    • A good option for entry-level and mid-tier retail products

Premium Packaging

Premium packaging adds a soft-touch finish.

Provides:

  • The protective qualities of Standard packaging
    • A smooth, high-end texture
    • A more premium feel in the customer’s hand

Premium Plus Packaging

Premium Plus uses metallic film with gloss lamination.

Provides:

  • A metallic appearance
    • Greater visual impact on the shelf
    • A polished gloss finish
    • Strong product protection

Premium Plus Plus Packaging

Premium Plus Plus combines metallic film with soft-touch lamination.

Provides:

  • A metallic appearance
    • A premium tactile finish
    • Strong shelf presence
    • A high-end look and feel

Recyclable Packaging

The recyclable option uses recyclable white film without lamination.

This option may be appropriate for:

  • Brands that prioritize recyclable materials
    • Markets with specific packaging requirements
    • Companies incorporating sustainability into their branding

Our team can help you compare appearance, cost, product protection, and sustainability before selecting a material.

Step 4: Add Your Branding

Once your product, pouch size, and packaging material are selected, you will provide your artwork and product information.

Packaging can be customized for different:

  • Products
    • Strains
    • Flavors
    • Fill weights
    • Markets
    • Brand collections
    • Product tiers

Each unique package design is treated as a separate SKU.

This allows you to order multiple designs through the larger monthly packaging program.

Step 5: Prepare Your Monthly Order

The Consumable Program requires a minimum monthly order of 50,000 bags.

You may combine different pouch sizes, materials, and designs to reach the monthly total.

Each individual design or SKU requires a minimum order of 5,000 bags.

All monthly designs and order quantities must be finalized and submitted by the 13th of each month.

Example Monthly Order

A monthly order could include:

  • 10,000 bags for Product A
    • 10,000 bags for Product B
    • 5,000 bags for Product C
    • 5,000 bags for Product D
    • 20,000 bags for Product E

The combined order would meet the 50,000-bag monthly minimum.

Step 6: Confirm Your Production Method

Let us know whether your products will be packaged by hand or through automated equipment.

The standard bags included in the program have been tested for compatible bagging equipment and listed product applications.

This is important because packaging must do more than look good. It must also:

  • Feed correctly into the equipment
    • Open consistently
    • Accept the finished product
    • Move through production efficiently
    • Seal properly

Treef-Er connects consumables and packaging with PreRoll-Er automation to help manufacturers create a more complete production process, from the cone or blunt to the finished retail package.
