Smoke Sesh Birthday Bash: Celebrating Richard DeLisi the Right Way | The Last Prisoner Project

Some birthdays hit different! It’s Uncle Rick’s birthday and five years of freedom. The cannabis space has always been built on people, legacy operators, advocates, artists, and the new generation carrying it forward.

For those who know the history, Richard became one of the longest-serving nonviolent cannabis prisoners in U.S. history after being sentenced during the height of the War on Drugs. He served more than three decades before finally coming home in 2020.

That kind of story stays with the culture.

And birthdays after that? They hit different.

Hosted at Now & Then Brooklyn, the gathering brings together advocates, brands, vendors, and supporters who believe in progress and in honoring those who paved the way through sacrifice. It’s a moment of reflection on how legalization and industry growth stand on the shoulders of people like Uncle Rick, individuals who endured the harshest consequences of prohibition.

A birthday.
A milestone.
A reminder that life moves forward.

The cannabis space is built on community. From legacy operators to the new generation stepping in, it’s all connected. Events like this remind us that the culture is bigger than any one brand, one moment, or one era. We honor the past, we celebrate the present, and we keep pushing toward freedom for all who are still waiting.

And on February 6th, it’s all for Richard DeLisi!!!
